The Restriction of Using the Internet in an Elementary Classroom
Problems with using internet in an elementary classroom: 1. The students will become distracted with other websites when doing activities online. 2. There will be technical difficulties when using the internet and it will waste class time. 3. Students will stubble upon websites will explicit or violent advertisements. Three Suggestions when using the internet in an elementary classroom:1. At any computer station, provide links the students are only allowed to use when using the computers.
this will allow students to stay focused on the activities they are expected to work on.
It would also be a good idea to set up consequences if students disobey and pull up sites not on the list. This punishment could be not being allowed to use the computers for the rest of the week.
2. Before allowing the students to work on the computers, make sure the internet is working and also have a back up option if it is not. This could be another fun activity or free time to finish up any extra work they may need to complete.
3. To avoid students seeing any explicit or violent advertisements, teachers should frequently observe the websites they are giving the students to use to make sure they have not changed at all.
